Our Mission: To influence Pickaway County residents to value higher education and link them with resources and opportunities to succeed.
Our Vision: Increase the number of students who pursue education beyond high school, which will strengthen the workforce and economic stability of our community.
Pickaway HELPS, Higher Education Learning Partners for Students, a 501(C)3 organization, started as a collaborative higher education initiative between the Pickaway County Board of Commissioners and Pickaway County Job and Family Services to increase the number of residents of Pickaway County engaged in the higher education process. Planning began in 2006 and the program was formally launched with the award of a Governor's College Access Initiative Start-Up Grant from OCAN in January 2007. Pickaway HELPS is overseen by the Advisory Board made up of community and business leaders from various agencies and organizations throughout Pickaway County, and led by our board president,Pickaway County Commissioner Ula Jean Metzler. In addition, our program has a five member Operational Committee to oversee day to day business. Our higher education initiative has studied employment and education data for Pickaway County and surrounding communities, looked at occupational trends and the challenges of the changing job market and are keenly aware of the need for promotion of postsecondary educational opportunities for our residents. Removing barriers and expanding access to college services will directly address these challenges and improve the quality of life for all residents of Pickaway County.
